A note to Rob - ironyak - 08-17-2018

Morning Rob -

Most of us have been around long enough to know the house rules and have no issue with them. However some others have been wandering far and wide off the range and some of us have been trying to corral them in. I know you are the sole moderator, but trying to remind posters to keep it local was my intent at least.

For the "Free Press in Hawaii" thread, some were trying to have an reasonable discussion and some were not and then deleting their posts. If you take a look at the logs that should be clear. For my part, I apologize for any part I played in having it locked, especially to HOTPE who brought up the topic. Please consider unlocking it with a promise that we'll play nicely.

Thanks as always for putting up with us. There is a often a level of informed discussion here above and beyond other social media sources and I know many of us do appreciate it. With warmest regards.

I had deleted some posts which were wandering off island. Sometimes I am too tired or busy to explain everything. Open-d is a slow learner and may get the boot. If you want to discuss local press I suggest you start a new topic. Discussing local Hawaiian press is fine with me.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Thanks for the extra insight - saw the off-topic messages being posted and deleted and figured it was the authors (especially one who likes to post insults and then go back and edit them). If I say pretty please with li hing mui on top can you unlock the current thread to keep all the info together and avoid duplicating the topic?

Open-d is a slow learner

The role of Moderator may be thankless, but it's not tactless.

All hail His Grace, Robert of House Tucker, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the 137 Islands, and Protector of the Realm of Forums. It is his right to dispense forum justice as he sees fit.

I once thought about starting a thread titled: When is it fit for a moderator to jump into the action and intervene?

But for the most part I think Rob has done a pretty good job putting up with us and our varied personalities.

The role of Moderator may be thankless

When you have a full time job AND take on the added responsibility as forum moderator, a task comparable to herding cats, you can prod and poke and nudge the cats so they stay mostly in the cat corral, but occasionally, and understandably, sometimes in a busy day you may have just a moment to decide whether to lock them in, lock them out, or put one in a cat carrier and send out-district, on vacation, where like in Blade Runner:

"A new life awaits in the off-world colonies, a chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure."

Yes, thanks, that’s a perfect depiction!
