T post question - Mindful - 10-06-2018 Anyone know how to remove the "fins" on the T Posts? RE: T post question - kalakoa - 10-06-2018 Lay the shaft on something solid (a pallet works well, doesn't scratch the paint/galvanized coating), fin down, pound with small sledgehammer until it comes off -- the fin is press-fit, not welded to the post. RE: T post question - terracore - 10-13-2018 Not sure of your application but if you've drilled holes into the rock to accept the post just set the post in the hole and use a post driver. The fins fall off. I didn't know they aren't welded, that makes sense. RE: T post question - MarkP - 10-13-2018 They are kind of glued on by the galvanizing but they come right off with proper motivation. If driving into a drilled hole, drive until the fins are at ground level then knock them off. The post is firmly held by the rock allowing the hammer to do its work. RE: T post question - terracore - 10-14-2018 Mark, what size drill bit do you use? RE: T post question - MarkP - 10-15-2018 1 1/2" although it was a tiny bit large. You could still pull the post back out some of the time. Still holds the fence up just fine though. I have used 1 3/8" in the past. That was pretty tight but you could still pound the post in. RE: T post question - My 2 cents - 10-15-2018 There is a product for cementing the posts in, I think it's called Rocktite. RE: T post question - kalakoa - 10-15-2018 1-1/2" is a tight fit for the US-made galvanized posts. RE: T post question - terracore - 10-15-2018 Thanks for the tip about rockite. I had been using concrete mix but it doesn't seem to work very well in very small quantities. I have a 1.5" bit and it's just a tad too large for the T posts. RE: T post question - MarkP - 10-15-2018 you can buy anchoring cement in small tubs at home depot. |
