State Legislators Refuse Special Session 2018 - Lolo - 10-13-2018

They want to wait until 2019. How comforting for those who lost their homes, livelihood, health. How comforting for Hawaii County to start infrastructure rebuilding. Once again we are second class citizens relegated to crumbs. Build that Rail.

Lolo is correct to say that the Big Island in general and Puna in particular are considered "second class citizens relegated to crumbs" by the powers that be in the legislature. I'm not justifying that fact in any way, but I think it is worth noting that the Kim administration has submitted a wish list that, while now pared back, still contains items which have little or nothing to do with the disaster. I know that good negotiators always asks for more than they expect to get, but Kim and Company went straight to fantasy land. Asking for a waste water treatment plant to enrich the prospects for a Shipman development in Keaau Village that virtually no displaced lava victims want to live in is one example. Of course, the legislature will say the delay is "prudent," but prudence could be exercised in a special session and get the deserving projects on Harry's list started. Also, I fear that some powerful Oahu machine politicians will see Harry's folly in such an expansive request as an excuse to deny funding to some of the worthy items on the list.

Both of our representatives seem like well meaning people but perhaps they need to make a little more noise to get Oahu centric politicians to pay attention? And yes I agree that the 'ASK' was big but we've been getting leftovers for years. We couldn't even get funding for a dedicated ambulance and one more CPO for Puna. Something needs to change cause it ain't workin.

"Kim and Company went straight to fantasy land."

People in the rest of the State, unlike our Mayor and a majority on this island, do not have Harry Kim confused with Zeus.
