I consider this a big deal for Hawaii and for the planet. Very curious how the GMO folks will look at it.

A Santa Barbara-based startup called Apeel Sciences says it has invented edible coatings that can extend a fruit or vegetable's shelf life by as much as five times. That means, if you spray it on a ripe strawberry that's starting to wither it will last about a week longer than normal.

And on another note.....
On the mainland I bought some Living Lettuce. 99 cents a head. The lettuce is packaged with its roots in a shallow watered plastic pack. No wilt in the fridge for a LONG time. Impressive, though I'm not in love with plastic packaging.

Hmm very interesting discovery.
Maybe they could use that compostable corn plastic for packaging?
