He can hang with them and they don't even care.) Carrie http://www.carrierojo.etsy.com http://www.vintageandvelvet.blogspot.com "Freedom has a scent like the top of a newborn baby's head..." So far we aren't bugged too much by them...we have lava cinder, but they aren't being very discreet...wont be long before someone's frying bacon here! Mom is thrilled, 'cause she's never seen one and they walk right next to her window so she can see them up close. U2 RE: Here Piggie! - Hotzcatz - 04-05-2008 Looks like a cross between a feral and domestic pig. Not as black and hairy as usual. I'd post a picture of the last pig that went through our neighbor's yard but it is a bit graphic unless you are a very enthusiastic carnivore. My neighbor caught it with a piece of clothesline. He took about ten feet of clothesline, tied one end to a tree and then made a slip loop in the other end. The loop was about eight inches wide and about ten to twelve inches tall. He arranged stuff in the yard to make a chute so the pig would go through the chute and then through the loop at the opening of the chute. I was amazed when he called and said there was a pig since we hadn't moved to trap over to his yard yet. It was a nice sized sow. We had arranged that he would catch them and I'd process them in exchange for the parts he didn't want. He didn't want much more than a few pork chops, a few ribs and I pressed a loin roast on him since it was "his" pig. There are five roasts in my freezer, a big bucket of chopped pork to make sausage with, a small jar of casings and a huge pot of pork bones simmering for broth. Yum! So, is anyone building a smoker house? RE: Here Piggie! - hooligal - 04-05-2008 my friend in Berkeley made a smokehouse out of a dead fridge & a metal drum. We also used it cold to cure our homemade sausage. Must admit tho, that we liked making gadgets out of recycled materials [] |
