Wanted: Doze/ Level Lot in Puna Palisades - MistaIncognito - 11-13-2018

Aloha all,

I have a lot in Puna Palisades that is under a half acre. The lot is pretty much flat with chunks of aa flow. Hoping to do to landscaping and septic this winter.

Looking for information on best practices and possible quotes on the job. I am assuming it makes sense to combine this work with a septic tank installation?

I have some shots I took with a drone that I will post if it helps make it easier to quote.

Mahalo to Punaweb for all the great building info.

County is no longer issuing building permits in "high risk lava zones" such as Puna Palisades...?

There is talk of putting a ban in place but at the time there is no ban for lava zone 2

You can't rely on "what they said" -- maybe get the permits actually issued, then find someone to do the work.

You are right, you can't rely on "what they said". That's why I talk directly to Hawaii County building division to get my information. Feel free to take my word for it, or you can always verify the information yourself.

Permits for the building are in the works, shouldn't prevent me from landscaping agricultural lands?

I talk directly to Hawaii County building division

You do realize they're not required to tell the truth?

I recommend you communicate with the building department in writing only. That way you have a record.

When they are just talking they can deny they said something or you misunderstood.

communicate with the building department in writing only

Especially when requesting permits in the "no build zone"...

Good tips.

Either way, the land needs to be cleared because it will be used for agricultural purposes at the very least.

I have used Big Island Excavating in the past with good result. They have the equipment and know how to use it.
