Lawn is getting soft. - 1voyager1 - 12-02-2018

Beginning last spring, it became obvious that the organic matter under our grass is getting deeper.
The truck that delivered loads of cinders tore the grass up for the first time leaving ruts in the lawn.
That had never happened before.
Now, the feet of my ladders are sinking into the ground when set up on the lawn, our cars when parked on the lawn are tearing the grass up and leaving ruts.

I'm thinking of getting a tow behind spreader for the lawn tractor and using it to spread black cinders around the lawn to firm it up.
Might take several light coverings to have any effect.

Any other thoughts or effective methods to, deal with this.

Aloha 1V1!

I am experiencing the same here. This year has been different. There has not been any period of dryness that enables the ground to "un-soften"

In years past there were droughts or mini droughts lasting weeks or even months. Not in 2018. Constant moisture. Really wrecking havoc on my plants and landscaping on my property in lots of way. Ahh Hawaii. Love it regardless.

When I was a kid in the 80s this is the same way it was. Nothing ever dried out. That changed in the 90s and have been getting used to it. The one thing we can count on in life in general is change.
