Health care East Hawaii - Frank - 03-20-2019 Interesting op=ed here https://www.civilbeat.org/2019/03/the-last-family-health-clinic-in-east-hawaii/?utm_source=Civil%20Beat%20Master%20List&utm_campaign=f5f3a44521-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_03_19_08_11&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_51c2dd3cf3-f5f3a44521-401863661&mc_cid=f5f3a44521&mc_eid=26f898d87e RE: Health care East Hawaii - kalakoa - 03-20-2019 Think of it: out of a $575 monthly premium, your PCP receives a paltry $24 per month to keep you alive! Gee, when you put it that way, it sounds like some kind of scam. RE: Health care East Hawaii - ironyak - 03-20-2019 Business, kalakoa - in America we call charging the most for doing the least, business (in Hawaii, we call it governance) RE: Health care East Hawaii - macuu222 - 03-20-2019 Yes... it's bad. Took us 5 years to get dependable PCP here. Before we were driving back and forth to Kona. And we still fly to the mainland for anything major (medical or dental). God help if you suffer a heart attack with no cardio care unit on this island. And now that we are getting to that age of declining health... we will be moving back to the mainland in a few years. RE: Health care East Hawaii - birdmove - 03-20-2019 I have to say that, Kaiser Permanente has treated me well. Yes, I do drive to Kona now and then when the Kaiser specialist from Oahu, works there one day a month. I also sometimes fly to Oahu sometimes for a surgery, or some scans and such. They pay for the flights, and arrange for my tickets. They pick me up at the airport and take me to Kaiser, and return me to the airport after. My regular doctor in Hilo caught a warning signal and got me to see a specialist. Good thing too. Jon in Keaau/HPP RE: Health care East Hawaii - kalianna - 03-20-2019 Yes, Kaiser's fine if you can afford it but we can't afford $3000 a year per person for health insurance. RE: Health care East Hawaii - randomq - 03-21-2019 quote: Seems like some PCPs and specialists should band together to make a subscription style offering, along with negotiated discounts or re-insurance for emergency care. PCP charges $500/month, keeps $200 instead of $24, and the rest goes to cover specialists and reinsurance. RE: Health care East Hawaii - EightFingers - 03-21-2019 quote: That’s cheap. We pay about $5000 a year and I think we’re getting a good deal! |
