Make Puna's vote for Prez count!! Change system - ElysianWort - 04-03-2019

I like some of the things Brian Schatz is doing. It seems like an absolute no-brainer, to change the way the president is elected.

Is it just me who feels like my vote for the country leader doesn't even count way out here in Puna? In my opinion the electoral college system is just a small piece of the corruption in the whole picture.

Anyone want to tell me why we shouldn't change it to the popular vote? The candidates ignore many states in their process of trying to get elected. They know some states hold imbalanced weight in the election race process and ignore places and people like us in Puna and all of Hawaii for that matter.

Forgive me but I can be quite ignorant sometimes when it comes to politics as I do not understand how my statement answered my own question.

I'm aware of how some states are red, "republican" and others are blue, democratic but do not see how some of the states holding imbalanced weight makes the process fair as I find it totally corrupt and still believe the popular vote should decide the prez.

I do not understand how my statement answered my own question.

It didn't.
Like the Electoral College, his comments provide no useful purpose. But still, they won't just go away.

If the popular vote decided the president, a couple of the same states would always be able to elect the president. With the electoral college, even Hawaii gets to have their votes actually count.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Yes states like California and Texas have a lot of people but there will still be a mix of votes amongst such states. I understand that some of these states will lean either Democratic or Republican but their vote is still just a number comprised of a whole (which would be the popular vote). It doesn't seem to me like such states will always pick the prez. There are always the people of the other states to add to numbers to tally together. You say "even Hawaii gets to have their votes actually count" but for as long as I can remember Hawaii's vote hasn't counted with the current system. I remember the results decided before Hawaii's vote is taken into consideration.

I'm sorry again RWR, but what?

The link you provided seems to have a plethora of little irrelevant political news stories but nothing that seems related to this topic. Why can't you explain in words what you were trying to enlighten us/me to by providing that link? Very confusing.
