Orchidland True Value for sale (?) - terracore - 04-07-2019
I was there today and the lady at the register told me the store was for sale. I asked why and she said the owner wanted to sell it.
I looked online and no sales or lease listings.

I hope the people that might buy it runs it like a business. I've quit going there because they hardly ever have what I need in the hardware dept....

Last time I was there was to make a quick run to get spackle. Got it home and it was hard as a rock. They were nice in refunding my money but it would have been faster in the long run to go to ACE.

Royall, while I do get that... they have so much groceries. At really great prices. Like, not slum pricing. Cheaper than safeway pricing.
I have talked to the manager a few times. I wish they would carry more livestock feed. They have access to it. And can order it (and have). And I've purchased every last thing they've ordered including hay, hay pellets, rabbit feed, chicken feed, etc. At a good price! We have so much livestock between HPP, Orchidland, HA, and Pahoa (and beyond) it would make so much sense to carry hay, pellets, chicken feed, etc. They have empty shelves. And so many of us have livestock. I'd spend a bit extra to not have to drive the hour round trip to Hilo and deal with the crappy parking.
If I had the money and time, I'd be all over purchasing this store. I've run/owned successful retail businesses and see a serious gem here. With proper pricing, good staffing, and listening to the neighborhood/area needs, this place could be a gem and make someone an ethical fortune.

I agree, the hardware section is miss managed. And as a "true value" it screams hardware. However its mostly a liquor and food store for those of us in the neighborhood. I think maybe letting go of the "true value" part might be the best thing for the store.

Yes, Pahoa Feed & Fertilizer will be closing sooner or later.
Miranda's is moving to Shipman about May.
Good location ... if you go early enough.

I hope not. They will still be getting our business. Maybe it will be good for them? I think they get their feed from Miranda's. Less driving. They are really more of a plant nursery / supplies store.
