Two contractors -- Isemoto Contracting Co. and Ludwig Construction Inc. -- were selected in what Kim described as a "running bid" process, where equipment, manpower and time will be factored into the price tag, which Yamamoto estimated at $11.9 million.
Only $3.7 million per mile.
Surprised there wasn't anything in the rumor mill until this sudden announcement.

Well, yeah, they had to wait for permits. Because permits are the most important thing.

"Permitting requirements for temporary road construction were completed, the County says, “including the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Categorial Exclusion (CatEx) permit, Special Management Area (SMA) permit, and a grading permit which will be reviewed by DPW and State Historic Preservation Division.”
The County plans to complete the temporary road by October 2019. Doing so will qualify the County for a 100% percent reimbursement of the cost from the federal government."

I'm not sure it will be connected to the lighthouse road.There are some problems there because the light house road is partially on private property.

Sure. Because 50 feet of new lava obviously is full of cultural artifacts and bones of dead folks.

4 lane divided highway complete with bike lanes and several multi lane roundabouts. Rest areas will be provided for weary travelers along with view areas.

Maybe not, but God help anyone that disturbs the olivine! I mean sure, go for the plagioclase, but omg how dare they disturb the olivine!
