75th D-Day anniversary - TomK - 06-05-2019

All,

I realize this may not be Puna or Hawaii specific, but the 75th anniversary of D-Day back on 6th June 1945 is upon us. I don't know how many people from Hawaii were involved in the landings but I suspect a lot of us have parents or grandparents that were involved. My father went over with the US landing forces as part of a small RAF group to set up an early-warning radar site for the expected response from the Luftwaffe to the landings. I am so proud of him despite his passing 30 years ago. My one wish was to take him back to Normandy one day in peacetime but was sadly unable to do that before he died.

My Austrian mother who was a refugee during WWII and remained hidden from the nazis with her mother and sisters in the Austrian Alps is currently watching the live ceremonies in Europe with tears in her eyes - I spoke to her just minutes ago.
