License Plate Photo System For Subdivisions - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-07-2019

A company is marketing a camera that snaps a photo of every car that drives by, then uses that information so homeowners who have been burglarized can provide police with vehicle I.D. info.

It costs each homeowner about $20 per year. Is it a good crime prevention tool? Or an invasion of privacy? I think it’s a good idea, and would be worth $20 a year.

Complete operational info in the news report video:

If you’re worried about your privacy being invaded, don’t drive on that road.
However, I imagine the cameras would just “disappear”.

The real crime is that it is a subscription based service. Why cant you just buy the camera and software.

I think the photos/video are transmitted to a storage device.
Unless the thieves wear ski masks and cover their license plate while they set up a ladder and unbolt the cameras - - smile boys, you’re on candid camera.

A paintball gun renders a camera useless from afar with a couple shots. No ladder no tools. Things to consider in setting up.

"omeowners who have been burglarized can provide police with vehicle I.D. info"

One of our neighbors was robbed by a white van with different front and last plates, neither of which belonged to the stolen van.

What exactly is the proposed benefit of this product?

different front and last plates, neither of which belonged to the stolen van.

It’s true, thieves in Puna also steal cars and trucks. If a description of the vehicle with plate #, real or fake, is provided to police as quickly as possible after a burglary they can pull over the vehicle if spotted. It’s a better chance of catching burglers than no chance.

Someone benefits by collecting the $20/homeowner?

If all of Puna paid an extra $20/year, how many more police is that?

Puna population= 55,000 * 20= $1,100,000.00
Police starting wage = $63,108.00 per year

-------------
Not much benefit.
The vast majority of the crimes are happening with vehicles with constantly changing plates. We have seen this in Leilani. Plates are either stolen or changed around with multiple vehicles.
