New Mosquito Virus on mainland: concerns - ElysianWort - 09-18-2019
EEE virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been popping up this summer. Super scary one. Seems more deadly the Dengue and Zika.
Thankfully not reported in Hawaii yet. Remove standing water around your house. Don't intentionally plant bromeliads near your home.

It's not new !
In the United States, an average of 7 human cases of EEE are reported annually.
Most cases of EEE have been reported from Florida, Massachusetts, New York, and North Carolina. EEEV transmission is most common in and around freshwater hardwood swamps in the Atlantic and Gulf Coast states and the Great Lakes region
We don't have many freshwater hardwood swamps in Hawaii.

I realize it's not new. Maybe the title should be "new concerns about EEE mosquito virus".
So does that mean it cannot be spread from mosquitoes found in clogged gutters and bromeliads? Has to be originated from freshwater hardwood swamps? hmm... I hope so.

This one can't go human-mosquito-human (unlike dengue) so not too much chance of it arriving here. Still, always a good idea to get rid of mosquito-friendly environments in case dengue returns.
