Scientists not welcome in Puna? - TomK - 11-30-2019 I took this away from the MK discoveries thread because it was way off off-topic. Many people have said Hawaii doesn't welcome business or innovation, but now it seems scientists are "screwed up" and "dysfunctional". According to "hokuili": "From my experience, scientists, the tried and true PhD kine, are often pretty screwed up by the process they go through to get their degree. I have been married to, was raised by, and 60% of my social circle is made up of scientists and I must observe, we're talking great observers, but otherwise, just like so many of the rest of us, they are a down right dysfunctional group if there ever was one. To ask one to step outside the box, over a line, to see the world without their own preconceived notions, is blasphemy. And OMG will they read you the riot act if ever you were to challenge their preconceived notions. But hey, when you do find an open minded scientist, one that retains the heart, and has the capacity to acknowledge their own shortcomings, OMG what wonderful people. What wonderful exchanges, insights, and relationships are possible. We have many kindred spirits right here on the island, though I do not think PW is a place they frequent." http://www.punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22533&whichpage=60 I don't know what caused his rant but it comes across as rather narrow-minded, insulting and with no regard to the families and staff that work in several scientific organizations throughout the island. There are many people, both foreign and native, that have PhDs and to call them all dysfunctional is an insult to their cultures, intelligence as well as their families and friends. You should apologize right now, hokuili. I will refrain from mentioning the number of identities and accounts hokuili has used on Punaweb. RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - rainyjim - 11-30-2019 I’ve felt this sentiment on every island in Hawaii, not just in Puna. Ignorance is bliss. RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - MarkP - 12-01-2019 How is this different than thinking vaccines ore telescopes are bad? BTY if someone has mistaken rationally derived conclusions for preconceived notions then the vigorous defense of those conclusions will seem petty. RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 12-01-2019 I have been married to, was raised by, and 60% of my social circle is made up of scientists and I must observe... they are a down right dysfunctional group... Let’s take hokuili at his statistical word, and 60% of his social group are in fact PhD scientists. That’s certainly not all of the scientists on Big Island, and it’s probably an extremely small sample of the total. Yet, hokuili feels it’s perfectly reasonable to expound on his derogatory prejudices as if they’re more than a personal opinion. There’s a word for this type of behavior no matter which group of humans it’s applied to, whether by race, color, creed, age, or in this case education and profession. Perhaps if we visit another social media website we’ll find hokuili discussing the dysfunctional interactions and experiences he’s had, first with his mother and later his wife, among misogynistic peers. RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - Obie - 12-01-2019 You're correct Tom,hokuili is a troll.Using the Hawaiian word for star as his username is just one of the giveaways. RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - Guest - 12-01-2019 Tomk, with your twisting of fact, and out right lies, to bolster whatever point you want to make you are the poster child of all I said, and hey you've done well, proved my point, again. Mahalo As to getting down in your gutter and grabbling with you, splitting hairs to further define what has already be said, nah. Maybe you can find someone else interested in that kind of thing. Though I should note, man did you take the bait. Swallowed da buggah, hook line and sinker. RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - Obie - 12-01-2019 A troll and a stalker. RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - Punatic007 - 12-01-2019 Is that Dakine again? RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - Durian Fiend - 12-02-2019 quote: No need. Even an infrequent visitor to the site such as myself recognizes this person as the one who really has it in for you. Not cool. RE: Scientists not welcome in Puna? - dan d - 12-02-2019 Better to delete it all HPP |
