Baba Ram Dass, long time East Maui resident died at age 88 last night. An early advocate of LSD with fellow Harvard professor Timothy Leary, he turned to Eastern spirituality in the 1960’s. His was a consummate storyteller, and his journeys to India were shared in lectures and a series of books including the seminal Be Here Now.
In recent years he lived quietly east of Haiku on Maui, with regular, weekly swimming excursions in the warm ocean water and sandy beaches of Kihei.

His peaceful journey continues.
His book " Be Here Now " was ironically one of the most frequently 'lost' or 'missing from shelf' items at the Pahoa Library for decades every time it was replaced. It is no longer available in paper format in the library system, but can be accessed as an electronic resource.
