Learn Bridge in a Day?® - gailbuck - 12-27-2019 A New Year’s Resolution: Learn Bridge—challenge your mental muscles, compete, make new friends, and have fun! The Hilo Bridge Club, an American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) affiliate, is holding a Learn Bridge in A Day?® seminar on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the Eagles Club in Keaau (on Hwy 130 across from Humane Society). Membership within the ACBL is growing as more Baby Boomers reach retirement and turn to bridge as a fun way to meet new friends while staying competitive and sharp. Bridge is played with a standard deck of 52 playing cards and four players comprised of two partnerships. Duplicate bridge differs from other forms of contract bridge because the same bridge deal (i.e., the specific arrangement of the cards into the four hands) is played at each table and scoring is based on relative performance. In this way, every hand, whether strong or weak, is played in competition with others playing identical cards, and the element of skill is heightened while that of chance is reduced. Learn Bridge in A Day?® is a five-hour course designed especially for newcomers and returning players to learn the fundamentals and sharpen their skills. Students will leave ready to take on a new beginner class or even play in a local club’s novice game. All are welcome to attend regardless of age or bridge experience. Cost is $40 and includes a workbook, lunch, and a goodie bag.
