$2857/foot - kalakoa - 12-30-2019

https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2019/12/29/hawaii-news/4-million-coming-for-kukuiola-village-9-road-project/

The county is poised to receive $4 million from the Hawaii Housing Finance &Development Corp. to build a road accessing the Kukuiola emergency shelter project and Village 9 affordable rental community project on Kealakehe Parkway.

The 1,400-foot-long road with 50-foot-wide right of way will divide the two projects, Sharon Hirota, Mayor Harry Kim’s executive assistant assigned to homelessness, said Friday.

$4000000 / 1400 = $2857.14 per foot.

Google comes up with quite a range: a 2-lane undivided road should cost $2-5M/mile, which is (roughly) $400-1000 per foot.

"Gee, I wonder where the rest of the money is going."

I think we all know the extra money is going into the pocket of one of "the right people."

$4000000 / 1400 = $2857.14 per foot.

Big Island. Where the streets are paved with gold. But not in or on the actual street.

Occurs to me we've all seen this before with the highway 130 restoration -- remember how the price kept changing to match the available funding?

Hey kalakoa, do you have boogymen in your closets too?

RE: $2857/foot - kalakoa - 12-30-2019

We're being bilked by our government, doesn't that count?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Do you see ghosts too?

Do you see ghosts too?

No, just trolls.

https://www.westhawaiitoday.com/2019/12/29/hawaii-news/90m-penciled-in-for-saddle-extension/

The $90 million figure is based on the most recent estimate for the project, which has remained in the environmental review phase since the release of a draft Environmental Impact Statement for the project in April 2017. Kunishige said the department is currently budgeting $5 million for right-of-way acquisition and $85 million for construction of the approximately 10.5-mile road.

$90000000 / (5280 x 10.5) = $1623/foot.

The 1,400-foot-long road with 50-foot-wide right of way

50' wide? I thought that was illegal. Oh well, nevermind that. I'm pretty sure the saddle extension is much wider than 50'. So, instead of price per lineal foot, perhaps a price per square foot comparison would be more accurate?
