Punaweb Sluggish? - Beachboy - 05-03-2008

I've noticed this past week or so it has become a real chore to get online . Has anyone else had this problem too? I know it's not my computers, so I wonder if Punaweb is becoming to bloated with past threads being readily avaliable?

It's not the number of threads it's just a slow server.

I've noticed the same thing, I can load other pages (tabs) with ease, at the same time but on occasion punaweb takes forever, more and more lately - I've got no idea why....

Well it might be server related...

Over on Oahu we have been having troubles w/ both Oceanic TV Cable and Roadrunner service on/off all day.

are you sure about that? I was always under the impression that when web pages like this(forums)if not maintained on regular basis. They then tend to run slower if old threads are allowed to hang around. All that extra broadband that is used for all these old threads must really drain the host of his sanity.

Oink, you make it sound like Punaweb has a different server almost daily. I don't think it works that way?

RE: Punaweb Sluggish? - oink - 05-04-2008

In the vast majority of cases the browser only pulls the displayed pages. The undisplayed threads wouldn't matter. I would guess the issue is a crappy server with insufficient bandwidth. Other sites on the same server may be having the same problem, or it sould be some other issue at the server. It could also be an issue somewhere else in the web as reflected in some of the other posts indicating a general problem not specific to punaweb. It could even be switches on Oahu. It could even be a new virus affecting the web.

RE: Punaweb Sluggish? - Kapohocat - 05-04-2008

I dont know what it is but today it is only punaweb that is actually timing out... and no other pages affected....

RE: Punaweb Sluggish? - Les C - 05-04-2008

If, as Kapohocat notes, you are seeing sluggishness only on Punaweb, then the problem most likely is with Punaweb's server and connection. As oink points out, the delivery of the page is affected primarily by what's on the page. Punaweb has negligible graphics and is mostly displaying text; it is also displaying a limited amount of text (thread lists are broken down into small sets, posts are limited per page). So, it is set up for quicker delivery. Usually. If you are experiencing sluggishness, it's highly possible that the broadband conduits in your neighborhood are choked with high traffic. I didn't think that was possible, but I've seen news reports that it is happening. The trememdous popularity of sites like YouTube (and possibly Pandora, sites that deliver media content) and the frequent access to them are apparently actually slowing down Internet traffic.
