CNN has a story which suggests tourists who visit Hawaii may have finally overstayed their welcome. Too many, too much, too demanding. The Hawaii Tourism Authority and the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau have prepared a series of short videos for their Kuleana Campaign:
"We have a custom here in Hawaii, of asking permission to enter a place. It really is wise to do so because you're not assuming," Sabra Kauka, a cultural practitioner, says in the video.
Lanakila Mangauil*, an activist, cultural practitioner and founder and director of the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua on Hawaii Island, thinks the Kuleana Campaign is a good first step. In his opinion, however, it's not being pushed hard enough. "It needs to be drastic."
"Our oceans are empty; our reefs are dead; our birds are dying; we're overrun by invasive species; and over-development in certain places -- and irresponsible development -- have just plagued us. We have been brought to the brink."
"The tourism industry has groomed guests to be rude and tyrannical in their ways. It almost gives them that entitlement," said Mangauil, who has had tourists flaunt the money they're spending, some of whom have even gone so far as to suggest they're paying his bills.

The plan by practioner/protestors as far as I can tell from the article and a few quick Google Searches, is to stop development, quash scientific research (Mangauil is a TMT opponent, see video link in OP) and encourage tourists to travel elsewhere. In the meantime practioner/protestors will employ themselves as paid Hawaii Tourism (HTA & HVCB) video spokespeople, then complain when rude tourists suggest visitor expenditures at resorts, restaurants, cultural performances & exhibits, as well as purchases of Hawaiian craft items help support local artisans which in turn pay resident’s bills, so some of them (Mangauli) can camp on Mauna Kea Access Road for extended periods of time.
Then, when all sectors of the island economy collapses, they’ll take over?

No, of course not. That might require a modicum of work and responsibility. Instead, they will insist on "reparations" to provide them with a standard of living with all the usual Western amenities.

I have to agree with the practitioners on this one. We have friends who live in the Waipio Valley, on the far side, across the river and not near any trails. They had a beautiful outdoor composting toilet that they actually had to enclose to keep tourists from coming through the gate onto their property and walking up to them in the lou to ask for directions. What is the objection to a booklet asking people for a little courtesy and respect?

It’s a good idea. Courtesy & respect are also a two way street.
The exaggeration and feigned indignation by Mangauil are what I found objectionable.

I understand. The invasive species most likely came from produce imported for our consumption rather from tourists bringing stowaways in their luggage. And I think we can all take credit for the dying reefs.

I had people wander on to my property a number of times, and they were of all types, including locals.
