I heard it. Wasn't that motivated to leap out of bed and see if it was a tour helicopter or not.

We were up. It looked a coast guard helicopter. The sound did make an impression but we were already up having coffee. ( I am going to assume that it was the same one as it was out just above the shoreline.)

I don't know if they started that early, but a search has been going on for a missing woman (about 50 years old) since this morning.

We saw the orange and yellow "Hawaii County" helicopter much of the day today. Very close to the ocean cliff and low. We assumed it was a search... [

which apparently explains what you heard.
The Trib's report Tuesday made no mention of the chopper search.
