New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - eightfingers2.0 - 08-23-2020 New traffic light being installed on highway 11 and the Shipman industrial park. Should make for some long lines unless it’s coordinated with the light at the 130 intersection. What is the reason for it? Is there a history of crashes there? RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - leilanidude - 08-23-2020 Shipman businesses wanted a light. Of course if will not be coordinated. i suspect it will be as poorly timed as the light on Shower. RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - kalakoa - 08-23-2020 Isn't it amazing how quickly it's going in, though? I can hardly wait until there's an accident on Stainback during a miles-long backup on 11. "Carmageddon 2: The Return Of The Curse", because we never learn. RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 08-23-2020 "Carmageddon 2: The Return Of The Curse" If I remember correctly, back in the real estate boom of 2005(ish) several big box stores like Costco had inquired about building in Shipman Industrial Park. The plan at that time was for the 3 way intersection at Hwy 11 & Hwy 130 to become a 4 way intersection with the fourth road leading directly into Shipman Industrial to handle additional traffic, and for the convenience of customers. The stop & go light already existed. It would not interfere with the traffic flow on Hwy 11. Shipman only had to build a short connecting street into their business park. What happened? The reason for the new stop light is due to the increased traffic from the industrial park. If the industrial park is busy, so much so that they require a traffic light, wouldn't an additional entry/exit road solve the problem today and most likely be necessary in the future? A second entrance into an area zoned industrial, which stores flammable & potentially dangerous substances would provide quicker access for the Keaau fire department, police, and medical personnel. Doesn't your home require two entry/exits? Why? An additional entryway into Shipman Industrial would prevent an additional traffic bottleneck for all Puna drivers in the short and long term. Or do the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many? RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - kalakoa - 08-23-2020 Just wait until we're on the hook for the improvements to create New Keaau Village. RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - PunaBaer - 08-24-2020 Newspaper article on the lights. RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - hankie1 - 08-24-2020 The should took the land from shipment at the light at hwy 130 and the land to build the road from the light. The state and county are afraid to take on shipment. This going to cause a massive traffic pile up in the afternoon when school start back up. all the school buses goes to shipment after they drop of the kids. Stupid RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - terracore - 08-24-2020 "The primary purpose is to assist motorists in safely crossing the southbound lanes but improvements at this intersection will also benefit cyclists, pedestrians and marathoners who share the shoulder highway space" Ah yes... we are doing this for cyclists, pedestrians, and marathoners. Not because the Shipman LTD said so. RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - leilanidude - 08-24-2020 and marathoners who share the shoulder highway space ------------ What marathoners? RE: New traffic light at Shipman on 11? - kalakoa - 08-24-2020 What pedestrians? Punchline: decreased traffic volume due to COVID means it will take a while before we all find out how bad this is. At least it was only 25% of the new Ainaloa roundabout. |
