GMO Humans? - My 2 cents - 11-21-2020

This from an article in the Tribune a few days ago:

"Both Moderna’s shots and the Pfizer-BioNTech candidate are so-called mRNA vaccines, a brand-new technology. They aren’t made with the coronavirus itself, meaning there’s no chance anyone could catch it from the shots. Instead, the vaccine contains a piece of genetic code that trains the immune system to recognize the spiked protein on the surface of the virus."

A friend sent me the following link.  It's from 2018 but seems to be addressing the technology that is being used for Covid 19 vaccines.  It says basically the same things as above but with a negative approach rather than a positive one.

So my questions are:
1.  Are these new vaccines actually genetically modifying humans?  and
2.  Is this ok, and on what levels (legally, ethically, morally, functionally, etc.)?

Previous GMO threads have generally digressed into insults and name-calling.  I hope we can avoid that here and stick with scientific and common sense discussion.
