I just read that the new Malama Market is holding a job fair on 1/20. Do I dare hope that the opening will follow shortly thereafter? I checked the Puna Kai website looking for more info (no) and also saw that Pizza Hut is supposed to open in January.

It's good to have a pizza place in Pahoa that can have a pizza ready in 15 minutes.
There was Sisko truck unloading at Malama Market when I was there on Thursday.
Now if Popeye's would just open up.

Unfortunately, they do not deliver to Orchidland, at least not my part of it. If I'm going to go pickup my own food it will be something better than Pizza Hut.

They will only deliver as far as Makuu on 130.
I like the hot wings.
Not a lot of choices for wings around here.

McDonalds is hiring for the Puna Kai location. Have they even started construction of the restaurant? Last I heard all they had was a concrete slab.

Last I checked Popeye's still had a dirt floor.
Meanwhile, the McDonald's shell went up in about two weeks. I won't be surprised if they're open before Malama.

I thought those franchises used modular construction? When I used to live in a city I remember them going up over a weekend and open for business a week later. Of course, they didn't have Hawaii permitting issues.
There used to be a burger franchise called Hot N Now, which anybody who ate there called The Rotten Cow. Their claim to fame in the 90's was their 39 cent burger. I remember them putting one of them up near the apartment I was living in and it opened up before the paint was dry. I'm guessing the slab was poured prior, but it went from an empty lot to a tiny burger drive through over a 3-day weekend. Ironically, the chain was owned by Pepsi because all the "better" fast food places served coke products and they were hoping that if they sold a dry, salty, 39 cent burger, a person might buy a wanna-be coke product to wash it down with. It failed. I drink cola maybe once a year, but if my once-yearly option is pepsi or water, I'll take the water.
