Plant ID Help - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-22-2021 Does anyone recognize this flowering plant? * grows in shade * individual flowers are 1/2” from tip to tip, range in color from white to pink * leaves about 2” long * plant grows 2-3’ high RE: Plant ID Help - kalianna - 01-22-2021 Just a guess, but it looks like jasmine, which is larger than 3' and likes sun. Maybe stunted since it's in the shade? RE: Plant ID Help - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-22-2021 It doesn’t have any fragrance. It’s been growing wild in pockets in my yard, usually shade or semi-shade, I’ve never seen it in full sun. RE: Plant ID Help - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-23-2021 While I’m at it, here’s one more. * flowers bloom sequentially on a spike, maybe 6-8 flowers on spike * blooms are about 1” across * leaves are 1-2” across * salt tolerant, does well near ocean * prostrate RE: Plant ID Help - terracore - 01-23-2021 Recognize #1. We had them too and they attracted hummingbird moths. We did identify it at one time but the name escapes me now. Do recall it being on the invasive list if that helps your search. RE: Plant ID Help - Punalani - 01-23-2021 #2 looks kinda like “Chinese Violet” (Asystasia sp?). RE: Plant ID Help - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-23-2021 Punalani, Thank you! Yes, it is Chinese Violet, Asystasia gangetica. I looked up the details, it's considered an invasive, but does so well in the salt air I may keep a few in pots. One identified, one to go (first photo). RE: Plant ID Help - SBH - 02-07-2021 Last week my son introduced me to an app, picturethis plant identifier, is 98% accurate in identifying plants with your phone. I have what I thought was a nasty, thorny weed on my property is actually raspberries. Must be from bird droppings. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/picturethis-plant-identifier/id1252497129 RE: Plant ID Help - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-07-2021 Thanks SBH, It looks like a good app, but at $30 a year it’s more than I’d like to spend for the few times I’d use it. I can ID most plants with the books in my library, or online, but the two I posted above had me stumped. I still haven’t been able to name the first one. RE: Plant ID Help - Durian Fiend - 02-08-2021 You could join FB Hawaii tropical landscape and gardening. The Rozett's nursery fellow will know for sure. Probably some other folks too. |
