Saturday evening Music - dreamoutloud - 02-28-2021

Hey there! Our band K.O.A. will be playing from 7:30-10 at the Lava Shack this Saturday March 6th. It would be so fun to meet some of you there!
Here's a music video we did awhile back.
Thank you!

Why in the world would anyone risk getting covid just to listen to some music?

Why in the world would anyone risk getting covid just to listen to some music?
----------
Because there is essentially no Covid on the island to speak of and the island is fast approaching herd immunity.

RE: Saturday evening Music - kalianna - 02-28-2021

"...the island is fast approaching herd immunity."

There have been about 2200 covid cases on this island of about 200,000 people. That's about one percent of the population. How did you come to the conclusion that we are even remotely approaching herd immunity?

RE: Saturday evening Music - leilanidude - 02-28-2021

Most cases were never tested as positive - those folks that simply felt a symptom or two for a few days and didn't bother to get tested. i am pretty sure i had it back in June as well as family members.

Ok, so the CDC estimates that 1 out of every 4.6 cases of Covid-19 get reported...

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/burden.html

Which, based on the number of reported cases (which as kalianna reported is approx 2,200) here on Hawaii Island, we then can assume there’s been something like 10,120 cases here overall. Plus now we can add to that the number of folks already vaccinated, which today is reported as 27,135...

https://health.hawaii.gov/coronavirusdisease2019/what-you-should-know/current-situation-in-hawaii/

And we come up with a grand total of 37,255 people that MIGHT be immunized.

And, considering that the island population is roughly 201,500 people we can assume that something north of 20% of the population is immune.

But that doesn’t take into account that just because one gets Covid-19 there is no data that suggests any particular amount of time afterwards that they are immune to further infection. In fact, my cousin, who got it in the spring, was told by his doctor that the evidence is suggesting a period of immunity following infection of about 3 - 4 month..

So, please help me here, how close does all that suggest we really are to herd immunity?

And to the original point of this thread.. I wouldn't go into a public gathering at this point for anything. And I certainly wouldn't encourage others to do so. In fact I would do all I can to stop those I know and love from going. It is nuts. And even if leilanidude is right, to break from our cautious stance now, before we really are immune, is just inviting more trouble..

RE: Saturday evening Music - kalakoa - 03-01-2021

The bigger problem: timelines and projections are just so much theater -- we have no control over the vaccination schedule or priorities. Hotel workers should not be prioritized over elders and people with preexisting conditions. I'll start taking the virus seriously when my government acts like it's serious.

"So dangerous you have to get tested to know if you have it."

Don't let me stop anyone from living in fear, though -- makes it easier for me to get a table at the restaurant.

RE: Saturday evening Music - terracore - 03-01-2021

We already have several COVID threads... If you don't want to go, then don't go. Let's not derail a thread about music and local artists trying to share with us for the sake of building more soapboxes.

You can still choose to listen to their music at the link they posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s28CPz63KY No mask required. No vaccine. "Just enjoy The Ozzy and keep your mouth shut."

RE: Saturday evening Music - TomK - 03-01-2021

Agreed, terracore. Although this isn't music I would listen to at home, it's certainly something that would be fun to watch live. However, going out to watch a band live isn't something we should do right now unless it's outside and people mask-up.

I wish dreamoutloud and K.O.A. the best of luck and I enjoyed the video. In the meantime, MyManoa is just the reincarnation of dakine/glinda etc., one of the nastiest people ever to infest Punaweb. It's probably best not to react to his posts.

Do you go into a grocery store? I have not heard of any grocery stores getting shut down for 14 days because a worker got Covid. Grocery stores must be especially safe.
