2021 Hurricane Season - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 05-09-2021

We may be off to an early start this year:

The first tropical disturbance of the 2021 eastern Pacific hurricane season has formed off the west coast of Mexico.

The system developed more than a week before the official start of the eastern Pacific hurricane season, which begins May 15.

The only thing I like more than the winter that wouldn't end is an early hurricane season. Can we get a little spring in between?

RE: 2021 Hurricane Season - ChunksterK - 05-09-2021

It's the "new normal." From the article:

"The eastern Pacific has had either a tropical depression or tropical storm form prior to the official season in three of the last five years."

It's just like Christmas stuff appearing in the stores earlier each year, except not as dangerous.

Andres means warrior. Predictions are higher than normal season both atlantic and pacific. https://www.maritime-executive.com/article/noaa-predicts-above-normal-cyclone-activity-in-central-pacific

I thought el Niño meant fewer hurricanes......

RE: 2021 Hurricane Season - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 05-09-2021

La Niña has cooler ocean temps which can result in fewer hurricanes.
During El Niño the ocean is warmer.

From the link in Amrita’s post:

“This outlook reflects the forecast for El Nino to likely continue through the hurricane season. Also, ocean temperatures in the main hurricane formation region are expected to remain above-average, and vertical wind shear is predicted to be weaker-than-average,”

El Nino decreases the vertical wind shear over the tropical central Pacific, which favors more and stronger tropical cyclones. El Nino also favors more westward-moving storms from the eastern Pacific into the central Pacific.

I heard there's reversion to mean oscillation refered to as Mas Nada??

RE: 2021 Hurricane Season - My 2 cents - 05-10-2021

Umm....that term is actually referring to county governance.

RE: 2021 Hurricane Season - tada - 05-10-2021

Yes. Actually I might be confusing it with a bossa nova song???
