This is absurd. The mayor's number one responsibility is public safety, and he is allowing our first responders, police, fire, and emergency medical personnel to be on the job unvaccinated. This is absolutely unacceptable. Absolutely absurd.
Why in the f*ck should I allow myself to be pulled over, and my car approached, by an unvaccinated police officer? Why, when I have done everything asked of me, should I have to put up with public servants that have not? This is untenable. Seriously, this is nuts. And our wimpy assed mayor wallows in his inability to be a leader. The man, who has proven he is unfit to hold the office, continues to put the lives of every citizen on Hawaii island in danger.

"“We’re very concerned, especially in light of what’s happening in our hospitals, the amount of people in our (intensive care units), and the fact that we’ve had people waiting in our emergency rooms to get into hospital beds,” he said. “I’ve visited all of our hospitals, and one of the things I’ve seen is that all of the emergency rooms have had people waiting at least a day, at times up to four days, to get into a hospital room. That’s really concerning because we’re starting to tax our emergency rooms."
I mean, come on, the guy says..

And yet he acts as if the problem is theoretical. As if it's in some far off future.. rather than now. The guy is clearly unable to take the steps necessary to protect the public's safety. And, in my book, that makes him a moron.

Roth's wimpy approach to the current Covid surge is unacceptable. He did an embarrassing on line interview with the Star-Advertiser last week in which he repeatedly asked for people to show more "Aloha" by getting vaccinated while saying that he didn't support tougher control measures because it would hurt small businesses. He kept dropping cutesy Hawaiian expressions into his phrasing while not offering one concrete idea other than the ridiculous concept of publishing the names of the quarantined in the newspaper.
Mitch Roth was no great shakes as a prosecutor, and his performance as mayor has been even worse. When I once asked him face to face why he signed off on some outrageously light sentences and plea bargains, he said, "Every time I lock someone up, they just release someone else. The prisons are full." I followed up by asking him why he was continuing to send cannabis offenders to prison, he said, "I have to enforce the law." The county makes a lot of money off asset confiscation in pakalolo cases, but he didn't want to talk about that.
And I will admit that I voted for this loser in the runoff because I thought Ikaika Marzo was a worse panderer to the TMT opponents than Roth. It's not the first time I should have left that part of the ballot blank, but didn't. Mitchie isn't going to help control Covid by being some sort of ambassador of Aloha.

No worse than Ige's "please don't visit Hawaii" and "if the numbers don't go down (to what?) we might have more restrictions (what kind?)".
None of this should be left up to the counties.

Because if he forced them to get vaccinated or get fired we would hardly have any first responders left. Its starting to happen in hospitals all over the country where a percentage of nursing staff (badly needed) are not going to bend a knee.
Other people who wont be required to get vaccinated.
Postal service workers
Congress
White House staff.
People that work at phizer/moderna etc. Just to name a few.

With the gov's dysfunction I imagine what you meant to say is this is a federal issue. That masks, vaccinations, and all our dos and don'ts should be uniform to the extent that it takes to insure their effectiveness. But of course once the CDC stumbled on whether or not masks work we were doomed no matter.
And still, I suppose, without a uniform national policy we're destined to have all this pilikia for the rest of our lives. Covid, dangerous unmasked unvaxx'd idiots in line next to us, yelling whenever they feel the slightest discomfort. Yep, I suspect Covid is the bell ringer for the downfall of our society. And what's left of it climate change will erase. Seriously, I doubt those idiots could collectively invent a fly swatter, let along manage a society.

I don't know if Ikaika has made any public statements about COVID recently, but considering the low vaccination rate among some of his supporters, my sense is his COVID response as mayor (had he won) would have been far worse than Roth's. Which I agree, has been poor.
The mayor's salary should be paid by Go Fund Me contributions, capped at $10 so contractors don't prime the money pump. Then the mayor would be forced to show competence and results to the voters, or go broke.
