Restrictions to continue! - kalakoa - 11-02-2021

“There really isn’t any kind of tipping point right now,” Roth said. “It’s hard to give an exact number, but we’re getting close. As the vaccination rate rises, we’re hoping that we could maybe drop other restrictions soon.”

Not sure why I was hoping for a better answer, but at least we have this empty public statement.

Mitch Roth, BS

They will always be “getting close”.

The only thing different for me at this point is wearing a mask while shopping.
5% more clothes than I'd wear before the pandemic.

Did you guys expect anything less? lol.

RE: Restrictions to continue! - kalakoa - 11-03-2021

I hear tell County is spending lots of personnel time processing permits for gatherings. I don't know if this is instead of, or in addition to, the other work that's not getting done, but it doesn't seem like a good use of our tax dollars. The indefinite "hoping could maybe" is getting tiresome.

I have never been happier to contradict the sentiment on a thread: Ige will be lifting all outdoor crowd restrictions on 11/12. Does this mean that Makuu market can open the picnic tables? And have music? And open Uncle Robertʻs? Hoʻolaulea!!??? WE NEED A PARTY!!!

A lot can happen by then, lets see what happens. I guess even a little walkback is a big deal.

Yeah. Right after I posted it I thought, "Unless mayor mitch decides otherwise" Fingers crossed.

 "Unless mayor mitch decides otherwise"

Looks like Mitch has to "opt-in" by issuing an order which loosens our restrictions to the new limits set by Ige, especially if we want restaurants/bars at full capacity. Ige has to approve that order, but he will be in Scotland for a climate summit, because "COVID-19 continues to endanger the health, safety, and welfare
of the people of Hawai'i and requires the immediate and serious attention, effort, and sacrifice of all people in the State" (Executive Order 21-08, page 1).

EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 21-08
(Statewide Limits for Social Gatherings, Restaurants, Bars, Social Establishments, and Gyms)

I . For statewide implementation and as defined by each county (and in accordance with definitions specified by each county)
...
4. This order supersedes less restrictive orders, rules, or directives of any of the counties to the limited extent necessary to carry out the limitations and restrictions contained herein.
5. Notwithstanding the provisions set forth herein, the mayor of any county may issue orders, rules, or directives that are more restrictive.

Ige acknowledged his new policy was deliberately crafted with an eye on Kauai and Hawaii counties.
...
In other words, restaurants and bars on Kauai and Hawaii island will still be subject to a 50% limit unless those counties change their policies and begin requiring vaccination and testing checks at the door.
