Quote:It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.
Charles Michael Province US Army

Easy to spot these gentlemen ( Korean War ), they will be wearing something Patriotic and look 10-15 years younger than they are. Take any opportunities you can to chat. Invite them in front of you at USPS ( or drop back ) and be ready for some fun stories and opinions you may not have asked for. Hehe.

Not really, perhaps people observe the day differently. As I have done since childhood, I stood, head-bowed, and remembered those that fought for our freedom. This was at 11 am UK time, 1 am HST. Remembrance Sunday is also coming up this weekend.

What has always bugged me is how many veteran support organizations there are. There shouldn't be a need to have ANY.

Taking care of veterans should be viewed as a cost of going to war. Instead, somehow it became OK for the government to start wars and send (in some cases force) young people to fight them. When they return, they supposedly have "support" through the VA.

If the government had to pay the TRUE cost of wars, I'm sure they would find a way to have less of them.

The ironic thing is, they probably COULD take care of all the vets by buying a few less bombers, planes, battleships and other tools of war.
