2022 Humpback Whale Count - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-01-2022 Big Island has a whale shortage. This year’s Humpback Whale Ocean Count shows Oahu averaged 6.4 whales every 15 minutes, Big Island 1.4. HPP had zero. I think I’ve only seen 1 maybe 2 whales total so far this winter. https://marinemulti4.wpengine.com/sanctuaryoceancount/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2022/01/OC_web_results_Jan_2022.pdf RE: 2022 Humpback Whale Count - Obie - 02-01-2022 I saw whales from HPP but you needed binoculars. Saw lots a friend's house in Kehena. RE: 2022 Humpback Whale Count - eightfingers2.0 - 02-01-2022 Been hearing whale slaps for a week now. Mostly at night. RE: 2022 Humpback Whale Count - Carey - 02-01-2022 Should also be noted that they did not have the normal count of volunteers (only site leaders) at the sites for January... & will re-evaluate site staffing for the next 2 OceanCount events... & the islands have reduced volunteer count sites this whole year.... https://oceancount.org RE: 2022 Humpback Whale Count - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-02-2022 I watched 3 whales near Kaloli Point this morning! Spouting, backs & tails rising out of the waves. |
