No spectators again this year. Not even if your triple jabbed, have a negative test, wear a mask or social distance. No hula for you.

If they want spectators, simply move Merrie Monarch to Oahu, where the restrictions are less onerous.

Many of the kumu hula are elderly, they carry a lifetime of knowledge and tradition which requires years to pass on to the next generation.  They would be most affected by exposure to COVID in a setting filled with thousands of people.  A no audience Merrie Monarch in Hilo is the best setting to hold the event and protect those most necessary for the continuation of the tradition.

Neh mine the pesky plane air or imports. Kobeed is respectful.

If I understand your spelling and sentence structure, exposure to dozens of people is not the same as exposure to thousands.  It would be like comparing a 16 year old hula student with a 70 year old kumu hula and saying “same thing, they’re both hula dancers.”

I think "Neh mine" means "never mind", but to be honest I'm not sure. "plane air" might mean "airplane" but then have no idea how "imports" are related.

I get it that Hawaiian speech has some irregularities that make it hard to understand someone talking, but why do people insist on trying to write like that? It certainly doesn't make me think they are Hawaiian, like when I hear people authentically pronouncing words in the dialect they have grown up with. IDK, just seems fake to me. And I'm pretty sure the people I hear that talk in that dialect don't express themselves that way when they write.
