Gov. David Ige says state indoor mask mandate to end March 25 - Puna Grace - 03-08-2022

Gov. David Ige announced that the statewide indoor mask requirement will end on March 25 at 11:59 p.m. with the current emergency proclamation.
The governor cited declining COVID-19 case numbers as motivation for the decision.
“We continue to see the trend moving in the right direction,” Ige said of reported COVID-19 cases. “It’s the continuing reduction in hospitalizations and COVID cases, in combination with the fact that we are now more than a week into the dropping of restrictions at the county level, that we feel comfortable that the trend is continuing. And we expect that by March 25, it will be even lower.”

Why wait? At least the kids were told they could take there’s off outside starting today, must be that the science changed, not the heat which is coming back.

The science hasnʻt changed, the covid situation has changed.  Today there were 63 new cases in the state, down from 2205 on 12/26/21.  It doesnʻt take a geniushead to understand why the mask guidelines are changing.

And we had near zero cases for a while and still had mandates.

Not that they had anything to do with the numbers whatsoever.

The CDC published guidance months ago regarding masks outdoors.  They indicated that they were unnecessary.  I pity the children.  Recess indeed.

Yeah, me too. Imagine being trapped in some silly game being played, in your name, by so called adults who go on and on about how cruel it is.. when in fact...

My great granddaughter, my only window into a kid's life anymore, really likes her's. Seems, so I'm told, that in that world masks are fashionable, something to admire, comment on, color coordinate.

Though, no doubt, to some kids it's torture. It probably has a lot to do with the attitude the adults around them impart, don't you think?

Sounds like Stockholm Syndrome to me.   Regardless, this should be a moment to celebrate and relish.  I can hear HOTPE mentally composing it's post about you guys griping even when you finally got what you wanted.  LOL.  Try be happy.

@maxrrrod reports residents should still hang on to their masks as Governor David Ige said the pandemic remains a fluid situation. #HawaiiNews

Don't celebrate yet.

If he cancels it again or tries to reinstate the mandate later it might get interesting. My masks are already in the trash. I wear a single ply bandanna to get through the door then drop it to my neck as it is.

You are truly a profile in courage.

I'm pretty sure that I will wear a mask in Walmart and a few other places for the rest of my life.
