RE: New store open in Hilo - AaronM - 05-16-2022 Ah yes, today's sign that the recession is near - a Dollar Store has set up shop. RE: New store open in Hilo - randomq - 05-17-2022 I can't wait to see what can be sold for a dollar in Hawaii! I miss those $1 loaves of store brand bread on the mainland. And $1 saltines. You sound like my republican sister. "We're waiting for the housing market to collapse to buy a new home.". RE: New store open in Hilo - AaronM - 05-17-2022 Hear me now and believe me later. The motto of all prognosticators. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Waiting for the housing market to collapse is what allowed me to buy 3 foreclosed homes in 2009 for the price of 1. Republican notwithstanding, I think your sister might be on to something. If you follow the historical prices of Hawaiian real estate, you will see that we are due for a correction. I suspect late this year or early 2023. RE: New store open in Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 05-17-2022 Ah yes, forcasting an economic downturn. … the housing market to collapse is what allowed me to buy 3 foreclosed homes in 2009 The housing market collapse also allowed those 3 homes to be foreclosed, because the homeowners couldn’t forecast the downturn. You are definitely a republican. Not a drop of Aloha in either of your statements. RE: New store open in Hilo - oink - 05-18-2022 Residential real estate traditionally goes in 7 year cycles. The severity of the last bust was due to Gov. interference in the market causing the market to go too long before the correction, making it severe when it occurred. It was late in hitting Hawaii but arrived none the less, as the next will. This next bust could also be severe as the Gov. again screwed up the natural cycle by artificially suppressing interest rates for so long. With the Gov. so willing to tinker with stuff it's hard to predict when the next correction will occur but I'd sure be leery of jumping into the market during the current situation. It has nothing to do with wishing anyone ill will or a lack of sympathy, empathy or compassion or political leanings. It's just the way things are. If HOTPE hadn't scooped up the foreclosures the bank still wasn't going to give them back to the former owners. |
