CoH: planning waste water treatment in Puna - Rob Tucker - 10-05-2022 Public Scoping Meeting As the proposing agency, the County is seeking public input on the issues you feel should be evaluated in the PEIS. A public scoping meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Keaʻau High School Cafeteria. A recording of the scoping meeting will be available here (future link to recording) at a later date. This is gonna be expensive. Guess who will pay for it. RE: CoH: planning waste water treatment in Puna - randomq - 10-06-2022 Can they study the environmental impact of inland cesspools being filtered through rock for a thousand years vs the frequent sewage dumps into Hilo Bay? RE: CoH: planning waste water treatment in Puna - kalakoa - 10-06-2022 It's only going to be "expensive" because County will insist on a traditional centralized plant, which will require miles and miles of plumbing with "booster pumps" to follow the terrain. Cheaper alternatives will probably not be considered. Frequent "overflow" dumping is a good point, as is the overall disrepair of the Hilo treatment plant. On the plus side, once the Puna subdivisions are upgraded with paved roads and sewer lines, property values will skyrocket, and there will be more than enough tax revenue to cover the cost of the upgrades. RE: CoH: planning waste water treatment in Puna - Obie - 10-06-2022 They could just require everyone to put in their own aerobic treatment units. $30,000.00 up front cost and you also have to sign up for a yearly service and inspection. Start saving your money. I forgot, these require a 24/7 electric service. RE: CoH: planning waste water treatment in Puna - kalakoa - 10-06-2022 For the cost of New Puna, it's cheaper to live elsewhere. Some places, cesspools work just fine! Ccat RE: CoH: planning waste water treatment in Puna - Durian Fiend - 10-17-2022 Hooking up all the subdivisions in Puna to sewer lines? It seems to me that this project would take decades to complete. Instead they should look at getting properties near the ocean and identified aquifers away from cesspool use and just leave the rest of us alone. |
