Looks like the Pilots at Hawaiian are having Difficulties with management.

A strike by Hawaiian Pilots could cripple the Islands right now.

Another trouble brewing is the hotel employees union. (Insider information.) They want a huge wage increase and additional benefits even though most hotels are running at 40% occupancy. Molokai Ranch looks smarter and smarter every day. [}Smile]

Leave to unions to seize on an "opportunity"

It's a bad time to think about strike when ridership on all airlines is plummeting nationwide due to oil.

Are you sure its all the price increases? Could be people like me are tired of the cattlecar treatment on US carriers. To call it crappy would be an understatement.

Yup, the airline service has been going downhill for a long time, however they have become available to a much wider market than when they had really good service. Remember when folks used to dress up to ride airplanes? That was also when about only ten percent of the population had ever ridden on an airline.

However, Dick, between the islands there really aren't any options comparable to airlines. There is a very limited ferry service but that takes hours and gets folks seasick. There isn't any big passenger liner service between islands. The cruise ships are all about long multiple stop cruises and not just carrying passengers from point A to point B which is the service the islanders would want.

Hawaiian Airlines, Go, Pacific Wings and to some extent Mokulele airlines are the only ones who fly between the islands. Pacific Wings and Mokulele have very limited schedules and fly very small planes. Go has already been in some sort of financial trouble and that pretty much leaves Hawaiian as the only inter-island carrier. Hawaiian just went through bankruptcy and redid their entire fleet several years ago with more efficient airplanes. They also reduced their employees wages and did all sorts of other cost saving efforts at that time which is why they were able to outlast Aloha when Go and ATA came into the local market. ATA AND Aloha are all gone now and the rest are on what seems to be shaky ground.

Hawaii without affordable inter-island air service means, among other things, there is very limited medical facilities for most of the islands except Oahu.

John, I assume this is the hotel you are talking about, the Royal Kona.

That being said, what does Molokai Ranch have to do with this ? It was
the fault of Molokai Ranch for trying to force the Molokai community to accept a illogical proposal to develop La'au Point.

Now MPL is trying to dump the responsibility to provide water and sewer service to West Molokai. But according to this article, they
have hidden agenda apparently. Due to Hawaii Supreme Court ruling and
a Attorney General's opinion, if MPL keeps the water system they would 've had to face a protracted legal battle over water rights.

You're right Hotzcatz, Just venting a little as it seems like we keep paying more for less and less. Definitely need the airline service for inter-island travel, as the other options are not really viable.

Aaron, I know the Molokai Ranch situation has personal connection to you. However, they were the first ones to "stick it" to the "community" and mark my word, they won't be the last one. As to the water and sewer question, they apparently gave notice to the County last year. You should read the PBN story on this issue.

I was told by a United Airlines guy that United owns go! now. Is that right?

I said, I thought Mesa owned go! and he said, yeah, and we own Mesa.
