how to take the stem out of the taro leaf - canhle - 06-16-2008

My wife wants to make laulau and the recipe said to take the stem out of the taro leaves. She doesn't know how to do it. Anyone knows how?

The way I was taught was on the back side cut the stem most of the way through about 1/4 way down from the top. Slide the leaf along the edge of the table or counter from top to bottom. The stem will pop right up and you can remove it. Its quick and fast.
