Orchidland medieval murder - terracore - 04-29-2023 https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/04/29/police-large-bloody-sword-found-alongside-man-suspected-gruesome-puna-murder/ PUNA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Island police have launched a second-degree murder investigation after an apparent domestic-related incident turned deadly in Puna Friday afternoon. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., Puna officers responded to a call at a home on 38th Avenue in Orchidland.
Police say they found a man who appeared to be experiencing a “medical episode.” They say he had visible injuries to his hands and was wearing bloody clothes. Next to him, police say they found a large sword covered in blood.
The man was later identified by police as 52-year-old Christopher Roy Howlind.
While medical aid was en route, police found a dead female with severe knife wounds to her neck, upper body, arms and hands.
Howlind was then arrested on suspicion of murder. Police believe he ingested some type of chemical liquid prior to their arrival as he began vomiting and went unconscious as he was being taken into custody.
Howlind was taken to the Hilo Medical Center where he remains hospitalized and is in police custody.
Detectives are working on a search warrant for the home, where the 58-year-old victim and her 37-year-old son reside with the suspect.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Hawaii Island police.
RE: Orchidland medieval murder - ChunksterK - 04-29-2023 Gruesome, indeed. Chemical ingestion was involved. Imagine that. Does "working on a search warrant" hours after the cops arrived mean they were working on searching the place or still working on getting a warrant to do so? If the latter, the criminal justice operation here is even more lame than I thought. RE: Orchidland medieval murder - Punaperson - 04-29-2023 Does anyone know approximately where on 38th ? It's several miles long, and while faces in the neighborhood may be familiar, names are not. RE: Orchidland medieval murder - Durian Fiend - 04-29-2023 Damn. I wonder who placed the call. Domestic related incident indeed. RE: Orchidland medieval murder - Gus - 04-30-2023 (04-29-2023, 06:01 PM)Punaperson Wrote: Does anyone know approximately where on 38th ? RE: Orchidland medieval murder - Punaperson - 05-01-2023 Gus - thanks. The newscasts I saw, and the on-line reports I came across, just kept repeating 'Puna, Orchidland, and 38th', but I didn't recognize the driveway/gate and didn't want to go on a lookie-loo ride to add to the neighborhood's stress. . Terrible situation for all. RE: Orchidland medieval murder - leilanidude - 05-01-2023 "Detectives are working on a search warrant for the home" ----------- Huh? That should have been immediate, when they were already in the house due to the injuries they observed. RE: Orchidland medieval murder - terracore - 05-01-2023 Yeah, it's called an "exigent circumstance" and generally can be applied if waiting for a warrant would result in a destruction of evidence, danger to the public, or potentially result in escape of a suspect. RE: Orchidland medieval murder - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 05-01-2023 search warrant Huh? That should have been immediate As terrible as this incident is, and we don't know the full circumstances yet, but if it is a domestic dispute between two people acquainted or related it's not a random incident that could occur anywhere else in the Puna community. Solving the details of the case isn't necessary to protect the general public. If the perpetrator survives he will probably be locked away in one place or another (prison or hospital) with or without a timely search warrant. Let's hope that's the case, intentional, and not sloppy CSI:Hilo investigatory procedure. RE: Orchidland medieval murder - Kelena - 05-02-2023 Word on the street is that the alleged perp was active on the “Grindr” gay hookup app and was pretty well known. So let’s be careful out there. |
