This is a tragedy on so many levels. Native Hawaiians have a higher rate of cancer than most other populations. It’s not caused by a polluted water table. It’s diet, specifically a lack of fresh food. Which could be grown by Native Hawaiians if they lived on their mandated homeland property. There should be fingers pointed and class action lawsuits filed. DHHL should be dissolved and replaced with an agency responsive to the needs of their people. I could go on, but read the article and weep:

It is a bad diet caused by places like McDonald's, Popeyes, etc. They seem to flock to this junk food. Giving Hawaiians land won't solve anything.

Dying from cancer between the ages of 20 and 49 is quite tragic. Obesity is the primary cause, with the poor quality diet a double whammy.
I'm not sure that having more land would solve the problem either. At least it'd be a step in the right direction.

goes back 240+ years. Natives of Atooi Wahoo Mowee Owhyhee etc. all had gout back then too when Cooke Clarke King Bligh Vancouver Ellis Dampier etc all wrote about if first hand... too much oiling kine fish and pigs/dogs..... not enough greens....
the kids had great skin, the teens and adults were often bloated and had bad skin especially the 'awa drinkers... try read the 1820's Era journals of Robert Dampier and Wm Ellis... aroha
