Airport transportation - Lori - 03-01-2006 Well, I'm starting to get excited! Sounds like our sale to the developer here (or at least the earnest money part of it) should go through in late May or June. As long as that happens, we should be there by end of July or August!!! I will be over in nid May to check out neighborhoods, schools, job interview, etc. I will most likely be flying ATA. My question is this...what is the best way to get from the airport to a Hilo hotel for the night? I will be renting a car but all the rental places close at 8:30 or so and ATAs flight doesn't get in until 10:00!!! Are the taxis affordable, honest and dependable? I will be going back to the airport to pick up a car in the morning too. Is there a bus route from downtown to the airport? I tried looking up that info but don't know the street names yet to know if one of the stops is near the airport or not. Or, do any of the hotels provide shuttles that late? Any info from those in the know would be appreciate! Can't wait to get there to do my checking! Then, can't wait until all three of us get there!!! Lori RE: Airport transportation - allensylves - 03-01-2006 Lori, We have stayed at the Hilo Seaside Hotel several times and like it. I ask for the kamaaina rate, which supposedly is a little cheaper. It and Uncle Billy's are the two Hawaiian owned hotels, but the Seaside is closest to the airport - by a few hundred yards. I asked at the desk of the Dolphin Bay hotel once, but the person there made a smart*** remark about the fact I said I had kids (they were not present to offend anyone) which offended me and we never went back. Allen Baton Rouge, LA & HPP RE: Airport transportation - pam jones - 03-01-2006 Lori I've flown into both Kona and Hilo airports almost more times than I can count and can attest to the fact that about 30 minutes after the last Aloha and Haw.air flts. the place is a total gost town! If all else fails give me a buzz and I'll give you a ride to your hotel. Heck, I'm retired and have nothing better to do. Just let me know a few days in advance. Pam2 or pj RE: Airport transportation - Carey - 03-02-2006 Lori, there are no public buses that go to the airport, nor any that run to the Banyan Dr. area. (Yet...they are considering these....but that will be months?years?) With the new ATA service, I am surprised that the car rentals are not planning to adjust their service hours (You may want to contact the Customer service with a suggestion..."with the new ATA planes landing in Hilo, there are many potential customers that you are not serviceing" type schpeel - Who knows, they may start serviceing the counter later!!!! (but don't hold your breath, there are other planes that land with no rental cars available ) There are a few taxis, but I haven't used them, do see Ace One - 935-8303 and Shaka - 987-1111 around town, but can not give you info on their service ![]() ![]() Aloha, carey RE: Airport transportation - Lori - 03-02-2006 Thank you all for the information. Thank you Pam for the offer too! That is really sweet of you. I will keep you all posted on what's going on. I'm so looking forward to being there and meeting some of the wonderful people who I read about daily! You guys are awesome!!! I've used so much of the info from here in our planning. Thanks again :o) Lori |
