Weird things the media says about Hawaii/Big Island - TomK - 12-13-2023

After the strange and incorrect stuff local media have written about Hawaiian Airlines and astronomy on Mauna Kea, I thought I'd start this thread so any nonsense about Hawaii can be listed. I'll start off here:

"The Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo: A Premier Destination in Hawaii"

https://www.energyportal.eu/the-grand-naniloa-hotel-hilo-a-premier-destination-in-hawaii/#gsc.tab=0

Now, the Naniloa is so much better than it used to be and I agree it's a good place to stay. It's cheaper than the resorts on the Kona side, has a decent restaurant and the rooms are nice. Compared to other hotels in the islands, it's a really good option. But it isn't home to a championship golf course, let alone an eighteen-hole course.

"The Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo is also home to a championship golf course, perfect for golf enthusiasts looking to enjoy a round in a stunning oceanfront setting. The 18-hole course offers challenging fairways and breathtaking views, making it a favorite among both amateur and professional golfers."

Did you not notice that the website is "energyportal.eu"? It's a spam site with LLM-generated articles under extremely bad AI-generated images. The most recent one by the same author, "Howard Rhodes", is about a devastating 7.1 earthquake in California that took place...tomorrow.

Quote:A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake rattled California, leaving residents in a state of shock and causing widespread damage. The quake struck on (date) at (time) with its epicenter located (location). This article provides an overview of the earthquake, its impact, and relevant information to help readers understand the situation.

I did notice the URL, but didn't know it was a spam site and knew nothing about what generates its stories or images. I know better now.

I wonder if Kauai building inspectors are trained to approve engineering plans for deep underground bunkers?  And qualified to sign off on the finished structure?

Considering what the average above ground builder goes through in Puna.

From what I can tell, ole Zuck opted for the NON-Urinal style underground bunker, so approval and final sign offs should be a slam dunk!

"“Hopefully we don’t freeze,” Bjornson said. The two said they regretted not wearing coats to the beach."

"Overnight, temperatures dropped to 49 degrees in Kula, 62 degrees in Manoa and 65 degrees in Hilo."
