County short term vacation rental survey - leilanidude - 04-16-2025 https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2025/04/15/hawaii-news/councilwomen-to-hold-public-meeting-regarding-hosted-vacation-rentals/?HTH=27b2b268a4aa7147e8587ae119b1d9a0a564b013 Survey questions are somewhat vague at times and do not allow for more than agree/disagree in some sections. --------- Community members are encouraged to share their input for the study through surveys for residents and TVR operators, hosted and unhosted. Survey links are: — For the residents survey, visit tinyurl.com/TVRREShi — For the TVR operators survey, visit tinyurl.com/TVRSUPhi (hosted and unhosted) --------- Personally, I am for STR's. They are kept clean, well maintained, don't have roosters, loose dogs, loud cars, etc. they also employ a LOT of people in the area who would otherwise not have a job. Since they are often empty for weeks at a time, they also make for nice, quiet neighbors. I do not buy the argument at all, that STR's result in fewer long-term rental properties. The major factor with people renting as an STR vs. long-term is the terribly slanted landlord/tenant laws Hawaii County has. If you cannot evict a bad tenant, why not rent STR instead as you know those folks will be gone in a week or a month. |
