Earth Day 2025 - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 04-22-2025

It's Earth Day.

The first Earth Day was in 1970, and a lot has happened since then.
In 1971 the US banned whaling.  Today humpbacks can be seen off the coasts all around Hawaii.  People were against the ban, they claimed we needed various irreplaceable substances from the whales, but by now I think most agree the ban was a good decision, as well as other protections for turtles and monk seals.  We're all better off for it.

Plant a tree in a crack in the lava.
Breath the fresh tradewind air.

A couple of Hawaii related songs:

Joni Mitchell wrote Big Yellow Taxi on a visit to Waikiki (they paved paradise…)

Graham Nash lived on Kauai for many years, and wrote Wind on the Water for the whales

We, the good ol' folks on da Big Rock, in 1990, for some reason I have yet to remember, celebrated Earth Day a month later.. really.. here's the poster..

Learn it - Live it - Love it.

Hawaii's own Jason Momoa and friends will envelope you in reality if you can handle the truth.

Can someone do the comunity a solid and help unpack reality from the envelope here? Seen the first film (soil health can be improved through regenerative agriculture which improves carbon sequestration and helps mitigate climate change) but for those trying to boycott and not create yet more Bezos bucks, what does Momoa and the second film add to this and how might it apply here in Hawaii?

Will check back later as have to go move wheelbarrows of goat pellets from their pens to the raised beds Smile

You go with your bad self farmer Yak!  Mahalo for honoring the goatness of the goats and sequestering carbon without adding to landfill culture. You are The G.O.A.T.!!

Apologies for posting that link.  I was not aware that you guys, gals and others don't like Bezos either now.  Seems like only yesterday you guys, gals and others were all about the tech bros.  It's hard to keep up with who is being cancelled and who is officially sanctioned, at the moment, by the party.  Again, please forgive me for appearing obtuse.

I have not seen the second film and was just trying to provide a legit pathway to the first film which was pretty awesome right?  Did you watch it before or after Bezos got himself on the blue team's naughty list?  Woody Harrelson, the co-star who is a resident of upcountry Maui - M2, just makes me happy. Just does. He's probably in hot water with you folks as well though right?

Given my new awareness of your Bezos boycott, and the fact that I have not seen the second film nor profess any awareness as to it's relevance to Hawaii, I think it's better not to attempt to answer your very reasonable and respectfully stated question.  Is that OK?  Mahalo.

RE: Earth Day 2025 - Durian Fiend - 04-25-2025

I thought he (Harrelson) lived in Kipahulu area, and wasn't aware of any reason he would have fallen out of favor.

In addition to owning Amazon, a company that offered some Earth Day specials, Bezos also owns the WaPo. Hopefully that's enough of a hint to explain how his popularity has tanked with many people.

You might be right about Kipahulu area but I think his daughters went to Haleakala Waldorf and I know they hung out upcountry and that would be a very rough commute.  I guess I just assumed.

I'm not going to upset M2 with further discussion of Bezos and WaPo but I got your gist.

Added: OH! Yea I figured he would be persona non grata after the truth bomb he let fly on SNL.  It's hard to stay mad at Woody though.

Thanks Tang! Obviously praise from You people is so valued by Us people! (Us Person 1: Who are "You people" and "Us people"? Us Person 2: Dafuq right? But play along, seems more unhinged than usual)

Hmm, criticism of Bezos and Amazon seems pretty common knowledge, even here on Punaweb. Another post to go ponder I guess.

There's a copy of the first film on Dailymotion for those interested. As for the second, guess have to check the high seas (sorry Aquaman, your kingdom is too posh anyhow, come at me bro).

Fiend - wasn't aware of any reason [Maui resident Woody Harrelson] would have fallen out of favor.
In addition to his SNL Covid Conspiracy Monologue he's also been seen as endorsing RFK Jr's presidential run, as have others who are part of the "Kiss the Ground / Common Ground" film team including the co-founder/producer.

It's all part of this crunchy granola, alt-health, no one can get sick if they eat enough organic papaya and grass-fed beef, vaccine-skeptic movement - useful recent article on this alliance here.

Which is all a bit unfortunate as regenerative agriculture has been shown to have real benefits, including here in Hawaii, if done well and without using cattle (as their methane emissions exceed the CO2 sequestered in the soil). It's just not the total solution to health and climate being sold by billionaires and these local folks on the fringe.

Not Puna/Hawaii Related

Please help me navigate the seemingly arbitrary application of the rules.

I posted about a movie with two major Hawaii stars in it about agriculture which is sort of a thing in Puna.

Ironyak posted a link to an article in a mainland extreme left rag written by fake meat evangelists which pokes holes in the ideas of the movie.  The article evidently passes the M2 test of Puna relevance.

I posted proof that the authors of his article are ultra processed foods evangelists and vegan, who of course don't like the idea that cows can actually be good.

I also asked him what he does with his goats.

The part I need help with is why this non Puna related article is OK for Ironyak to post to throw shade on the movie:  https://newrepublic.com/article/193307/nature-solutionism-vaccines-beef-climate

and my relevant information about the authors of the nonsense and their motivations is not OK?

Many people in Puna and Hawaii are into regenerative agriculture featuring cows for both milk and meat and we have Ironyak parroting some really fringe ideas from people with dubious motivations,  telling us that we are stupid.  We aren't.

Please help me be a better Punawebber going forward.
