Several FB posts with the details - starting to be picked up by the news.

Interesting bit of a dichotomy here in that all the news outlets reporting this story have not publicly identified the deceased, pending "notification of next of kin," yet FB and the socials and even here on PunaWeb, the individuals have been named.

Does anybody think this is appropriate?

Coconut wireless going to do what it does. With suspect still at large probably best that it does put out the word on what's going on IMHO.

The residents of Papaya Farms road apparently think it's appropriate. Jake Baker is the suspect. One guy was found inside his catchment tank, the other hacked up in his house.

I don't see this as the residents right to post this information. My entire, whole and only point is it appropriate for "the next of kin" to find out their loved one died on Facebook?

I've also read the FB posts and have read about the suspect. I think the Police are the ones who should be dealing with both the notifications to the next of kin as well as the naming any potential suspect.

But then again, we are pretty near, if not already, seemingly on board with the gang mentality with vigilante justice. Where is the monk seal rock thrower's "dish out some lickins" dude on this now named suspect?

RE: Double murder on papaya farms road - Durian Fiend - 05-27-2026

Clearly the posting was originally intended as a warning for their immediate community to beware of this fellow.

No, I don't believe anyone else will make the leap to invoke vigilante justice.

Iʻm wondering if this might explain the other disappearances of older men in Puna over the years, ie Kelly Gravitz et al.

On west Maui?  Not eastern Big Island?

*IF* the suspect and the victims were all residents of Papaya Farms Road, the neighbors would want to be informed.  Unfortunately, even if the information was posted on a private neighborhood Facebook page (or similar) it only takes one person to make the post public.

*******

What I'm seeing is both the deceased were kupuna...and the appropriateness of them already being named is a bit disturbing, yes. But the coconut wireless gonna coconut wireless.

Kelly Gravitz wasn't "old", per se...I think he was in his 30s? (Didn't check).

I'm thinking of kupuna who have gone missing or been killed, like William Bishop, or Michael, the guy who used to hang out at the Natch whose body was found at Mackenzie, dead from a gunshot wound.

And then there are the missing females, as well...

Things are just really pretty scary around here right now.
