A question about the police booking log.. - MyManao - 06-07-2026

I have, what should be, a simple question. But no, I can’t simply find the answer. So I’m asking here, hoping that someone will know and post it and the matter will be over with. No controversy, no need anything other than if you know the answer I would appreciate it if you would share it.

The question..

On the Hawaii Police Department Media Booking Log, what Mynah Bird used to read, faithfully, every morning on the good ol’ AM radio, there are a few entries per an arrest listed that are abbreviated, or listed as a code. And one, the "Court Code” is a mystery to me. I assume it is which jurisdiction a case is assigned to, which set of laws the alleged offense fails within, and where the accused will be tried. But I’d love some clarity.

The document I am looking at specifically is here and the Court Code that is important to the specific case I am looking at is “HF1”. But if someone knows about the codes in general I’d love it explained.

Thanks in advance.

The Court Code column on the Hawaiʻi Police Department Media Booking Log tells you where and when the arrested person must go to court. These entries consist of a three-character code (like HD1 or HC1) followed by a scheduled court appearance date. How to Decode the Court CodesThe court codes use a simple pattern to show the court tier and the specific district location.First Letter (Court Type):H = Hawaiʻi County (The Big Island)Second Letter (Court Tier): D = District Court (Handles traffic cases, minor crimes, and initial hearings)C = Circuit Court (Handles serious crimes and jury trials)F = Family Court (Handles cases involving minors or domestic relations)The Number (Court Location/Division):1 = Hilo Division2 = Puna Division3 = Kaʻū Division4 = Hamakua Division5 = North Kohala Division6 = South Kohala Division7 = Kona Division

Thx, to both of you.

And while we're at it, there is another number that I imagine the more savvy here know how to interpret, or where to find their meaning. It is listed under "Charges for OTN:..." where I assume the OTN number is the case, or some identifying number of the arrested. But under that, on the line below, is another number. For instance in the case I am following it is "709-0906A". And I assume that is more to do with the specific changes involved. Am I right? Wrong? is there a directory of these numbers?

Thx

It is the specific HRS the person is being charged under:

Hawaii Revised Statutes Division 5. Crimes and Criminal Proceedings § 709-906 | FindLaw

Sometimes if you search eKokua with a name, or case number, they will have more details.  If the case has gone to the prosecutors office you can try calling, but usually it’s difficult to get past the person who answers the phone.  You can also try Victims Assistance in the prosecutor’s office, but I think you need to be the victim of a case being prosecuted to get through.
