Puna Legislators Missing from Good Government Caucus - ChunksterK - 07-31-2026

Civil Beat published an article today on the Hawaii Legislature's bipartisan Good Government Caucus calling for a special session in the wake of the indictment of the Lt. Governor and several other high ranking state officials:

Neither of our two Puna legislators, Joy Sanbuenaventura and Greggor Ilagan, are among the members shown on the group's facebook page:

The Good Government Caucus is composed of Representatives Terez Amato, Della Au Belatti, Elle Cochran, Joe Gedeon, Tina Nakada Grandinetti, Ikaika Hussey, Kim Coco Iwamoto, Jeanne Kapela, Lauren Matsumoto, Amy Perruso, Julie Reyes Oda, Garner Shimizu, Kanani Souza, and Senator Karl Rhoads.

I guess that means Joy and Greggor are in the "Business as Usual" caucus.  Imagine that.

The House had tried to pass Bill 1519 which would have done what the special session will do.

Greggor was a co-sponsor of that bill .

I guess that means Joy and Greggor are in the "Business as Usual" caucus.  Imagine that.

The article says it's a legislative matter, Joy's in the senate, and still the list you include has a senator so let’s assume that with the 76 members of the two houses combined the list of participants is a small showing.. and still it’s a great idea. But does it require a special session, or is this really campaign advertising? Regardless, I wouldn’t go overboard with extra spending to make a special session happen as much as insure that it is a matter of concern in the next session.

One thing to note is District 5 is represented, go Jeanne go, whereas otherwise it's not as if the legislature is in session so getting everyone that favors such a move in a photo op may not have been as easy.. maybe others that weren't there still support it. As Obie points out Greggor does.. at least in the form it was in during the regular session.

And still.. I'd give the matter a good look over during the next session verses thinking it warrants a special session.. especially during an election cycle.
