Positive things Newcomers bring to Puna - Guest - 07-26-2008 quote: Enthusiasm [] *edit* I spelled newcomers wrong in the actual title of the thread. ------- Rally For the Plan RE: Positive things Newcomers bring to Puna - Dave M - 07-26-2008 Oh Oh Oh.. I got one.. I think Pink Floyd said it best when they said Money Money Money... It was PF wasn't it? Blessings, dave "I'm not as good as I once was.. but I'm as good once, as I ever was" George Straight RE: Positive things Newcomers bring to Puna - Guest - 07-26-2008 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Timothy 6:10 I never in my life thought I would quote something from the bible. I was just trying to figure out where "Money is the root of all evil" came from.... I just found out. My Haole family brought western medicine to the islands. Unfortunately, it's us Haoles that have caused the diminished population of the Polynesian/Hawaiian population in these islands today. ------- Rally For the Plan RE: Positive things Newcomers bring to Puna - missydog1 - 07-26-2008 Let's tweak the Desiderata now: they bring the ability to not accept the things people say can't be changed that should be changed? Positive thing: DIVERSITY, because even though the islands pride themselves on diversity now, it tends to be pride of the diverse people who showed up prior to the 20th century -- who have now settled into a stable pattern ... continuing diversity keeps things evolving. RE: Positive things Newcomers bring to Puna - rbakker - 07-26-2008 It's the *love of money* that the Bible says is the root of all evil. But then the Bible says so many things. Newcomers bring money, skills, energy, enthusiasm (well, for a while), diversity, opportunities, demand for improved services (eg broadband), ideas. I'm struggling to think of anywhere that hasn't benefitted from legal immigration. RE: Positive things Newcomers bring to Puna - Big_Island - 07-27-2008 They bring really nice furniture that usually ends up on craigslist at bargain prices [] RE: Positive things Newcomers bring to Puna - DanielP - 07-27-2008 The love and enthusiasm for: #1. For me, there is an inexplicable draw towards the overwhelming awe that comes from being so close to the active and dynamic forces displayed by the volcanoes. It just blows me away. #2. The new frontier. A place of staggering beauty in a wonderful climate, where a person can buy land at a cheap price that is surrounded by a fabulous, clean and warm ocean, teaming with beautiful and diverse life. #3. The diverse culture, made up of many peoples and traditions and real fusion food. The live and let live attitude. #4. So much diverse and fascinating land to discover in such a small area. #5. A less oppresive government. #6. Apple bananas etc.etc.etc. Aloha, Dan |
