Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - StillHope - 08-06-2008 Aloha, everyone. As Rob mentioned a while ago (and I checked recently) Home Depot on the mainland(at least in CA) has the same price as in Hilo. This is the exception of the general (+ shipping) prices. What is the rule of thumb to determine the approximate price(NOT on FOOD )? Is it like 30-40% more? Note: I am asking for the practical reasons, not to start the general discussion. I talked to the sales rep.in Home Depot,he recommends to buy the fridge in Hawaii(warranty, etc.) I also will need a dining table and some other furniture items. Garage sale is not good in this case, because I like everything in one style. So 1)-are there are other stores like Home Depot and 2)-what is the average % over the mainland price? I would appreciate your input and patience)): Thank you in advance. RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - DanielP - 08-06-2008 Everything in one style? What you don't like Puna style? HoHoHoHeHeHe RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - StillHope - 08-06-2008 And the Puna style is..? RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - DanielP - 08-06-2008 eclectic RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - David M - 08-06-2008 I prefer one style also - "serviceable" David PS, There is Lowes on the other side Ninole Resident RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - StillHope - 08-06-2008 OK,I am going to steal Punamom's: "highjack all you want as soon as I at least get an answer". Seriously, forget about the style.I was asking how much more (average) "non-food" items cost? RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - dcl - 08-06-2008 I packed up everything and moved it here with me when we moved six years ago as I did nto think I would be able to find what I needed here. But since then I have found the places that sell this stuff and I would never move with that much stuff again, I would just get it here. So to answer your question, we need to know how high end are you looking for. We have high end Koenen's that I believe may be going out of business, Furnitureland, not quite that high end and Yamada's. I do not think the prices were bad a Furnitureland. RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - StillHope - 08-06-2008 Thanks, dcl. Definitely not high end.More like upper low or lower middle )): But still nice... Seriously, something like Jerom's or Ashley's furniture. As far as shipping is concerned,my 20' container still will have space. RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - dcl - 08-06-2008 In that case if you already have the container, buy it before you come. Be careful that you get real wood, as press board just melts and warps, plus mildew. Furniture I would try and find something similar to island style bamboo, wicker or similar. I have some nice couches that I can smell the mildew beginning inside of the cushions and backing. My table that I did buy here is warping some. I did bring the washer and dryer, but ended up replacing the washer with a low water use front loading style. I would be looking for sales where you are, then bring the stuff with you if it is something that you need to purchase. RE: Home Depot - the exception. What is the rule? - StillHope - 08-06-2008 Thank you, dcl. I've got the front loader and the dryer from Whirlpool.I love my furniture, but I know it's not going to last long. But it's one of a kind style -made in Italy (though the quality is very average). I just like very light color, cream, off white . Here I am, talking about style.. I wanted to buy leather couch, but I I know about the mold.Though my subdivision has, probably, the lowest amount of rain. How long a leather couch would last? |
