Thank you so much! - firewife - 08-26-2008

thank you all so much for your advice. we are considering everything. good and bad. we are not thinking of moving to hilo to "vacation". we know that it is a living community and that there will be regular live issue's to deal with, kids, work, bills, chores, bla bla bla..... but if we do decide to move, we want to move to a place were we can be part of the community. make it our home. we are very much friendly and loving to all types of people. you have all been so nice to share your stories. thank you. iam sure i will have more questions for you to comment on in the next months to come... Smile

one more question.... are there good church's in the area, groups, ext... here in cali, we feel comfy with the calvery chapels, but any place where they share the love of christ is fine with me!

thank you
Jacque

You should see the religious listings in the local paper (Hawaii Tribune Herald) on Fridays! If there's a religion that isn't catered for here, then I haven't heard of it. There's even a Marijuana Ministry.

You won't find megachurches on the island. Many smaller churches though of every description. And many people feel closer to the land, the sky and the sea than they do to the "God of Abraham". In terms of sheer numbers, the largest group of believers in the Middle Eastern god are on Oahu.

My wife and I went to New Hope in Hilo back around when we first arrived at the turn of the millenium. However, we have a Baptist kind of slant to our beliefs and are now at home in Puna Baptist Church in Pahoa. It is big enough to offer many opportunities both for attendance and service and small enough to give a warm welcome to the new folks. Kind of an "Old Time Religion" feel to it. Pastor Alan is great. Good sermons, but not too long, and upbeat lively singing. Come visit - it's informal (slippers and shorts OK).. Sunday School at 9am and church at 10:30am every Sunday. God bless, Jim & Carol
