Big Island Used Cars - Garretto - 09-01-2008 Does anyone have a recommendation on Big Island Used Cars? They have some very reasonable cars online and I'm interested in one they have advertised. Also, since I'm not able to get there until mid October and I'm afraid the car I'm interested will be gone, does anyone know someone knowledgable and trustworthy I could hire to check the car out before I get there? I'd like to snap it up and have a vehicle ready for me when I arrive. Maholo in advance... Garrett RE: Big Island Used Cars - StillHope - 09-01-2008 Garetto,in some cases it makes sense to pay about $1K to ship - Pasha does excellent job,or you can use Matson or Horizon Lines. RE: Big Island Used Cars - allngood - 09-01-2008 Aloha Garetto Big Island Cars sell most of their autos with no warranty. A risky way to buy a car. Shipping one from mainland is a good idea. Or consider renting a car for week or two. Rental cars are still reasonably cheap here. Book one online and save. Take some time and look around in Hilo, (Puna not so much) you can find good used cars for sale by individuals. Many local folks take extremely good care of their cars. You will know this when you see car or meet seller. Allen RE: Big Island Used Cars - John S. Rabi - 09-01-2008 I would ship new and fairly new cars from the mainland, but I don't think you will save much by shipping an older car. I agree with the others, I don't think anyone but the dealerships will give you a warranty on used cars here, and even those will give you only a limited and short-term warranty. I wouldn't buy a car sight unseen either. Aloha, John S. Rabi, GM,ARB,BFT,CM,CBR,FHS,PB,RB 808.989.1314 http://www.JohnRabi.com Typically Tropical Properties "The Next Level of Service!" RE: Big Island Used Cars - missydog1 - 09-01-2008 I wouldn't buy a car sight unseen either. Vehicles get used hard here. Salt, heat, bad roads ... I've seen cars turn out to be OK and turn out to be spectacularly not OK, and in-between, and with no recourse. I don't know this dealership, but if they don't offer a warranty, you are at risk of getting a problem car. There will always be more cars ... Sometimes it's better to go to Oahu and get a car, and ship it over here. Obviously it's not terriibly convenient, but cars here seem to be marked up with the costs of shipping either way. Either you pay more because it's here, or you pay to get it here. |
